Seskar Seal Dog Extinct Dog Breeds

Named after the isle of Seskar, an island in the Gulf of Finland, the  Seskar Seal Dog  was an ancient Spitz type, seal hunting dog used to seek out seals in their nesting caves and around their breathing holes.

It became extinct in the 1950s, when, like so many other breeds, it was no longer needed for the purpose for which it was designed.

The  Seskar Seal Dog  has subsequently been recreated as the Seskar Dog or Seiskari, pictured above, although not necessarily as a working dog.
