Fido Famous Dogs

Floppy-eared, rough-coated, yellow dog of unknown ancestry adopted and named by future President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln while living in Springfield, Illinois.

Although banned from the White House by the President’s wife after his inauguration, Fido continued to be cared for by a friend, John Roll, and Fido went on to become the most common dog name of the period.

Sadly, a year after the President’s assassination, Fido too was murdered when a drunken man mistook the dog’s friendly nature for aggression and stabbed him to death. How sad is that!
