Australian Terrier Dog Breeds
The Australian Terrier is a small terrier originally developed from British rough coated terriers transported to the Antipodes by settlers early in the 19th century. It shares its ancestry with the Cairn Terrier, the Skye Terrier, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier, the Yorkshire and the Irish Terrier. The breed was officially recognised in 1850 and became known as the Australian Terrier in 1892. (It was previously known as the Rough Coated Terrier). By the way, if you have an Australian Terrier and would be happy for your dog to feature on Dogipedia, please send us a photo using the form on the right.
